The SRI Membrane Sampling Accessory is for extracting gases from a liquid sample. It is designed to work with our 10-port gas sampling valve (sold separately), and replaces the sample loop in the valve circuit. Included with the Membrane Sampler Accessory are two solenoid valves for helium purging between sample injections. The Membrane Sampler is also equipped with its own heater, and may be heated to 300 degrees centigrade.
As the liquid sample flows through the silicon membrane tube, any gases therein selectively permeate the membrane into a heated surrounding chamber.
While the gas is extracted from the liquid, the 10-port valve is in the LOAD position. When the valve is switched to the INJECT position, the gases are swept from the sampling chamber into the carrier gas stream.

The Membrane Sampling Accessory may be plumbed to accommodate a wide variety of applications. The SRI TOGA GC, shown at right, uses the membrane sampler to extract gases from transformer oil.

Another application is automated online sampling for monitoring trihalomethanes (THMs) in drinking water.

An SRI 8610 GC may be retrofitted with the Membrane Sampling Accessory. It must be installed by SRI, along with a 10-port valve and valve oven if the GC does not already have those.
